How To Motivate Students During Summer Break

The learning process about a mandatory activity that must be followed by students when they enter school hours. So that when summer vacation arrives, of course, students can relax because they can be separated from things related to academics.

Even though you are in the summer vacation period, this should not make you forget to study. Because learning is one of the routine activities that must be done by students to increase their knowledge and level of intelligence.

Even if you are on summer vacation, you can use your free time to study. But unfortunately, it is a challenge for parents and teachers to be able to motivate them to study in summer vacation.

Giving Summer Reading Assignments

Although it can be said that summer vacation is indeed an opportunity for students to be free and relax, if it is used to relax, it will certainly make students lose because it can cause “learning-loss”.

As a teacher, you can motivate them to keep learning even during the summer holidays. The trick is to give a summer reading assignment, but if given this assignment alone, many students will not do it. So give the student a form to record how much they have read.

Giving Challenge

One of the things that can be used as motivation so that students can stay active in learning even during summer vacation is to challenge them. But you have to give the right challenge so that the child feels interested and wants to do the challenge.

Try to provide challenges that require children to teach their parents what they have learned before summer vacation. Ask them to record it whether it’s a teaching video or podcast.

Making an Agreement

To be able to motivate students so that they can continue to study in summer vacation, it turns out that it can not only be done by teachers but also parents. You can provide this motivation by agreeing with your child.

For example, agree regarding the time given to them to play and also to study. You can give them the freedom to play video games or anything else as long as they have learned before or will learn after playing. In this way, children will feel motivated because they must do so if they want to play.

Assigning Tasks Involving Parents

There are many ways that teachers can do to motivate children to increase their interest in learning even during the summer holidays. One of them is to give tasks in the form of programs to make children have to involve parents in carrying out an activity.

Because the participation of parents in these activities will certainly make some students happy because they are required to be active. In this way, the learning motivation that exists in the student will appear by itself.

Asking Students to Document Their Vacations Through Journals

There is no need to feel confused if you want to improve students’ writing skills even during summer vacation. Because if you provide the right writing program to students and their enthusiasm is big enough, then the above target will be achieved.

You could try giving students an assignment to write a journal through the various documentations they get during their summer vacation. This will be able to hone students’ creativity in writing and test their memory based on the documentation they have previously received.

Although summer vacation is indeed the best time to take a vacation, don’t let students drop out of study just because of it. Provide various motivations or programs to make students able to continue the learning process even though they are not accompanied by teachers.
